Biography of Ram Mahabir, B.Sc. (1937-2008)

RAMSOEKH (RAM) MAHABIR was born on December 31, 1937, in the District of Suriname in Suriname, where he grew up. He obtained his bachelor degree in the Netherlands in 1959, a B.Sc. from the State College in Deventer and the Agriculture University of Wageningen in 1964.

After returning to Suriname Mr. Mahabir worked at the Ministry of Agriculture in Suriname. Subsequently Mr. Mahabir was a staff member of the Central Planning Bureau (Stichting Planbureau Suriname) from 1981-1997.

Trademark practice in Suriname
Ram Mahabir specialized in Trademarks during the beginning of the 1990's. He first entered the firm of Dr. Paul V. Sjiem Fat where he was trained in all aspects of Trademark Law.
After retirement of Paul V. Sjiem Fat, the firm Dr. Paul V. Sjiem Fat Law Offices was pursued by Sjiem Fat & Mahabir Trademark Consultants N.V. Mr. Ram Mahabir was a founding member of Sjiem Fat & Mahabir Trademark Consultants N.V. He held the position of partner in the firm.
In 1998, Mr. Mahabir was officially permitted to handle trademark matters before the Bureau Intellectual Property in Suriname.

Despite the strong competition in Trademarks in Suriname Mr. Ram Mahabir's accomplishments and devotion to the firm are vast, and were always very valuable. Mr. Ram Mahabir's perseverance was very fruitful to the firm Sjiem Fat & Mahabir and also resulted in a modern and personal approach towards to the many clients of Sjiem Fat & Mahabir. Due to Mr. Mahabir's dedication Sjiem Fat & Mahabir has become a well respected firm in Suriname with a portfolio consisting of clients from every part of the world.

Playing Bridge
Besides his work in IP, Mr. Ram Mahabir also was a passionate bridge player. Mr. Mahabir won the National Bridge Championship, several times in a row. He also won many championship titles on an international level. Bridge was one of Mr. Mahabir's hobbies which he practiced since his time in College. Mr. Mahabir also was a qualified lecturer in Bridge.

Ram Mahabir spent the last years of his life working in the financial department of the firm, playing bridge, fishing and travelling.

Mr. Ram Mahabir passed away on January 11, 2008. Ramsoekh Mahabir was 70 years old.
