Brief history
Sjiem Fat & Mahabir was founded in 1999 in Paramaribo, Suriname by Mrs. Myra V.O. Sjiem Fat and Mr. Ram Mahabir. This firm emerged from Dr. Paul V. Sjiem Fat Law Offices.
Dr. Paul V. Sjiem Fat became a lawyer in 1950 and practiced law in Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles.
In 1992, after decades of law practicing, Dr. Sjiem Fat founded Dr. Paul V. Sjiem Fat Law Offices in Suriname. This firm specialized in intellectual property law matters, rapidly becoming the largest IP firm in Suriname.
On August 1, 1999, Dr. Paul V. Sjiem Fat retired from the firm and transferred power to Sjiem Fat & Mahabir Trademark Consultants N.V.
In 2004, Mr. Chander S. Mahabir joined Sjiem Fat & Mahabir. Mr. Mahabir became a partner at the firm in 2009.
